Candida overgrowth is the most common cause of systemic fungal infection and accounts for 80% of all major systemic fungal infections. Candida albicans is a normally harmless yeast, naturally present in the intestinal tract in balance with all other bacterial flora. Problems can arise from intake of certain medications and during periods of prolonged stress or lowered immunity. Candida proliferates to the point of infestation, changing from its benign yeast form to an invasive fungal form. Candidiasis is the name given to the condition resulting from the over-proliferation of Candida albicans.
Symptoms may be attributed to food sensitivity because the invasive fungi can increase rapidly in number and become permanent in the digestive tract.
Elevated IgG antibodies is consistent with exposure to Candida. IgA Antibodies are found in the body’s mucosal surfaces which include gastrointestinal, oropharyngeal, respiratory, genital, and urinary tracts with elevated levels associated with mucosal candida overgrowth.
